Apple launches iPhone

After so much hype, speculation and anticipation from Apple geeks across the world, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs has finally confirmed the company is to launch the iPhone, a touchscreen handset combining mobile phone, internet access, and iPod music and video playback features.

The iPhone is one of the slimmest smart mobile handsets around at 11.6mm thick, it will incorparate a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display with multi-touch support and a proximity sensor to turn off the sensor when it's close to your face, 2 megapixel cam, 4GB or 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth with EDR and A2DP, WiFi that automatically engages when in range, and quadband GSM radio with EDGE.

The internet-ready iPhone will use the Apple OS X operating system with support for Widgets, Google Maps, and Safari, and iTunes. A partnership with Yahoo will see a free email product offered to users.

A 4Gb model will be available for $499 (257) and an 8Gb model for $599 (309). The iphone will be available in the US from June and in Europe by the end of the year, personally I can't wait finally a device that will be able to
effortlessly sync with my mac.
